That district of Rusizi is at the forefront of ensuring justice and equity in the whole district. The Gacaca courts have been functionning well whereby 13,621 cases were received amongst which 3,140 were settled, 975 were sentenced to TIG, 2,024 were guilty and 1,026 were not guilty.
The district found it necessary to add more 58 Gacaca courts to the existing ones bringing the total number to 170 this facilitated the speeding up of cases that had accumulated and to abide with the National Commission of Gacaca deadline to have finished most of the cases by the end of 2008.
