Rusizi District has got 11 health facilities which are Bugarama, Rusizi, Mashesha, Gihundwe, Bweyeye, Mushaka, Nkombo, Nkaka, Nkungu, Nyabitimbo, and Mibirizi. Amongst all these only Bweyeye and Nkombo establishments are the only ones that don't offer VCT and PMTCT/AIDS services.
A big number of the population in the district have joined the Mutual Health Insurance as statistics from sectors show with an overall total of 350,289 beneficialies making up a 60% subscription rate. Gukundanvura sector comes ahead with the biggest percentage of inhabitants benefiting from Mutual Health Insurance (86%) and Gihundwe sector comming last with only 51% of its inhabitants benefiting.
The district has also tried to reduce the infant motality rate by ensuring that a number of expecting-mothers produce from a medical facility and currently the district has been able to attain a 63% rate of women producing with the help of a medical doctor. Most maternity services are offered at Mibirizi Hospital.
The district has intesified the sensitization of people about the consequences of a big population growth rate that is hampering the development of the district because of limited resources that are available to sustain the big population and 35% of married people have participated in family planning programs. |
