Education in Rusizi District has been improving tremendously since 1994, after the Genocide. Currently the district boasts of 88 Nursery Schools/Kindergatens that accommodates a total of 5954 pupils made up of 3017 boys and 2937 girls. There are 100 Primary Schools in the district that teach 83,329 pupils amongst which 41,780 are girls and 41,549 are boys, this even shows that the district is doing all it can to surport the government policy of educating the girl child. The district of Rusizi has got 27 Secondary Schools hosting about 10,084 students of which 4,771 are girls and 5,313 are boys and with a human resource capacity of 151 qualified teachers and 124 non qualified. The district also set up 190 centers commonly known as Amasomero to teach people how to read and write in order to eliminate illiteracy that humpers the overall development of the district. In the districts interest to improve on technical innovation within the youth, 3 technical schools commonly known as CFJs were established to train the youth in income generating activities by giving them hands-on training in various fields like carpentry, brick laying, craftsmanship, etc. |
